Leased-line monitoring system

Monitoring of leased lines

In this application, the LSM probe is used for monitoring of leased lines. The system allows measuring and monitoring of a main line as well as a backup line.

The LMS probes are usually looped into the line. As far as no OST tests (see below) or no active backup solution is required, the LMS probe can be connected to the line with high impedance as described above.

The monitored lines can be operated in the following modes:

  • Structured according to G.704
  • Unstructured HDLC 16
  • Unstructured HDLC 32

Monitoring

During the in-service test (IST) mode, the system monitors the line stati and the framework structures of the active connections and evaluates them according to ITU G. 826. Changes in the state of the lines well as the results of the IST measurements are logged and the system can trigger alarms at the management system, if they have been activated. If the backup line is activated, the LMS probe automatically switches to the backup line.

Proactive measuring

In addition to IST measurements, lines can also be measured offline. In the out-of-service test (OST) mode, the end user is disconnected and the system independently measures between the two LMS probes the quality of the line. This OST is controlled by the management system. The results are logged and transmitted to the management system.

Optionally the line used can also be used for inband communication, as far as a G.704 structure is available. General alarm criteria can also be transmitted via the system by integrating LMS IO Probes.
